- When the installation is completed insert the USB cable.
- The Add New Hardware Wizard will search for and automatically install the new driver.
Note: If at any stage you are asked to restart your computer, please follow do so, as failure to follow the instructions may result in incomplete installation of the USB driver.
- Install the WizCom Desktop
Choose the Desktop application compatible with your product:
- Establish Pen-PC Communications
Do the following to check that your Pen and PC are configured correctly for Pen-PC Communications:
On the Pen:
To set the Pen communications settings:
- Turn the Pen on, scroll down to ”Preferences” in the Pen Main Menu and press ENT.
- Scroll down to “Communications Settings” and press ENT.
- The ”Connection Device”submenu appears. Press ENT.

- Scroll down to ”Baud Rate” and press ENT.
- The baud rate should be set to 115,200. Scroll down until you see 115200 on screen and press ENT.
- Press ESC twice to return to the Pen Main Menu.
On the PC:
- On your computer go to Start/Settings/Control Panel and select System.
- Click on the Hardware tab and then click on the Device Manager.
- Scroll down to Ports (COM & LPT) and open the drop-down list of ports.
- Find the "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port" and note the corresponding COM port number.
Note: If the "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port" is not listed under Ports (COM & LPT) it means that the USB driver has not been installed correctly. Go back to the CD and rerun the driver installation. If at any stage you are requested to restart your computer, please do so.
On the Desktop:
Launch the Desktop and select “Communications Settings” from the “Pen Communications” menu.
Make sure that:
- The Port corresponds to the COM port being used by the Pen (seen in the Device Manager).
- The Baud Rate is set to 115,200.
- The Infra-Red checkbox is empty.
Once this is complete, run the Communications Wizard to establish communications between your Pen and the PC. The Communications Wizard can be accessed from the Help menu in the Desktop.
- Pen-PC Communication
Use Pen-PC communications to install Add-Ons or dictionaries from the CD accompanying your product, to transfer stored files from your Pen to PC and to use the Scan to PC application to scan text directly into a Windows application.
Troubleshooting
If at any time the QuickLink function or Scan to PC application appear to not be functioning correctly (you either receive an error message or nothing happens when you try to use the functions), do the following:
- Exit the desktop application and re-launch it.
- Make sure the USB cable is connected to both your Pen and PC.
- Turn the Pen on and Scroll down to “Pen-PC Communications” in the Pen Main Menu (in some Pens this option is called “Enter Upgrade Mode”). Press ENT.
- On the Desktop, go to the “Pen Communications” menu and select “optimize File System”. Wait for the optimization process to complete.
Once this has been done, your Pen communication should function correctly.
